About object tracking

Keep several moving targets in attention

Moving Dots briefly marks a small set of targets, removes their distinguishing color, and then moves every dot through the same field. When movement stops, you identify the original targets. Dot identity stays consistent even as its position changes.

Difficulty changes the total number of dots, the number of targets, and the length of movement. Five rounds provide a natural end, and the result shows targets found rather than a synthetic ability score.

Divided attention

Keep more than one target active without focusing exclusively on a single dot.

Motion tracking

Update where each target is as positions change across the field.

Interference control

Separate remembered targets from identical distractors.

Practice well

Track the shape of the group

Instead of staring at one target, notice how the targets sit relative to one another: left and right, upper and lower, close or far apart. Update that loose group shape as the dots move.

Choose a difficulty where you can follow the motion without strain. Stop if movement causes discomfort, and remember that performance in this task does not diagnose attention or visual conditions.

Common questions

About this exercise

How many dots should I track?

Easy marks two, Medium marks three, and Hard marks four. Start with two until you can keep both in view.

Can I select more dots than the target count?

No. The selection stops at the stated target count; deselect one dot if you want to change your answer.

What happens when reduced motion is enabled?

Transitions are removed to respect the device setting. If the position changes are still uncomfortable, use a static exercise instead.
